Fact Sheet: Columbus Technical College

Columbus Technical College has a $50 million impact on the Columbus economy, including an annual payroll of approximately $12 million and an annual operating budget of about $3.6 million.

Over the last five years, 98% of Columbus Technical College's students have found employment immediately following their graduation.

About 90% of all Columbus Technical College graduates are employed within 50 miles of Columbus.

Columbus Technical College is ranked #1 out of Georgia's 34 technical colleges in the number of companies served. Columbus Technical College, through its Economic Development Department, provided training assistance to 341 companies for the 2005-2006 year. Almost 11,000 people received training services from the College in the last year.

Seventy-one percent (71%) of the student body of Columbus Technical College are Columbus residents. Nearly all of the remaining students reside in a county adjacent to Muscogee County.

Currently, Columbus Technical College offers 26 degree programs, 29 diploma programs, and 53 certificate areas of study. The year 2006 saw Columbus Technical College award 1,055 associate degrees, diplomas, and certificates in over 80 areas of study.

The main campus consists of 13.6 acres on the south side of Manchester Expressway with facilities of 165,000 square feet and 20 acres on the north side with 170,000 square feet of learning space.

A public/private partnership agreement with Columbus Technical College Foundation, Inc. and the State of Georgia will bring two fully equipped health sciences facilities to the new 26-acre North Campus on River Road. This will allow a greater than 50% increase in the number of health sciences students the College can accept, educate, and train for the workforce.

In 2005, Columbus Technical College was forced to turn away more than 50% of the qualified applicants in our health sciences programs due to a lack of facilities and faculty.

From 2003 to 2005, Columbus Technical College managed 12 Quick Start projects for Columbus companies, creating nearly 4,200 new jobs. These companies included Exide, Pratt & Whitney, Aflac, Kellogg, Waggoner's Trucking, Techsphere, Remitco, Cessna, American Consumer Products, and Road America.

Close to 80% of Columbus Technical College students are recipients of the HOPE Scholarship and/or the HOPE Grant.

Columbus Technical College has more than 1,200 students waiting to get into a specific healthcare program.
