Dan and Kathelen Amos Commit $1 Million to Columbus Technical College in Donation Challenge

January 18, 2007 - Amoses encourage Columbus community to match donation supporting campaign to grow local workforce of health care professionals.

Columbus, GA - In support of Columbus Technical College's campaign to develop a local workforce of much needed health care professionals, Dan and Kathelen Amos have committed $1 million to the institution, challenging area businesses and residents to match the donation.

Tomorrow's Workforce... Today, a capital campaign led by the Columbus Technical Foundation, Inc. has been established to raise funds for the design and construction of a new high-tech health sciences project at Columbus Technical College's future campus on River Road. Once building and lab construction are finalized with complete staff in place, the College will be able to train and educate more than twice the number of healthcare graduates it can currently, ultimately helping to address the shortage of nurses and other healthcare support workers in the greater Columbus area. Contributions can also be allocated for teacher endowments and naming opportunities.

"Dan and I know of no better way to invest in the long-term quality of life in our community than to enable more people to fulfill their dreams. A matching grant such as ours will allow individuals making gifts to double their money, which may motivate people to act now," said Kathelen Amos who is co-chair of the capital campaign benefiting Columbus Technical College. "We know that many others will want to be a part of the campaign's goal to greatly expand and grow those opportunities in our community. The good people of Columbus have risen to meet the call on countless occasions. In this case, we have a unique opportunity to affect many generations to come."

"This speaks volumes about the strong personal commitment of Kathelen and Dan Amos to our community and its future. When you receive news of such a wonderful gift, you stop and realize the enormous trust that people are putting in our school," said Bob Jones, President of Columbus Technical College. "This generous gift will provide opportunities for our community and further our mission of ensuring that this region has a ready workforce as it expands over the next several years."

This personal commitment comes just four months after the Aflac Foundation, Inc. pledged $1 million to the Tomorrow's Workforce... Today campaign, making it the first corporate gift to be committed to the project. The campus library will be renamed in honor of this contribution.
